The Lithuanian Dance Information Centre is a unique institution of its kind in Lithuania entirely dedicated to dance. The main task of LDIC is to disseminate information about dance in all possible ways in Lithuania and abroad. We also seek to build a permanent critical examination on the dance field by strengthening visibility of dance, by articulating artistic ideas, aesthetics, values, methods and processes and by communicating much closer with other artists, organizations, institutions, venues, festivals and with the audience. For this purpose the online dance journal at www.dance.lt provides information, analysis and conversation about contemporary dance events in Lithuania, neighbours’ countries and from abroad.
In 2011 we established the project Šokis žodžiu – ne[w]kritika (Dance through word – not[new] criticism) which runs yearly during International dance festival New Baltic Dance in Vilnius. The project aims to strengthen the already existing critical discourse on and around dance in Lithuania as well as to develop new ways of reading, understanding, writing and talking about dance in the landscape of media diversity.
